(like first dibs on the hottest concert tickets!)
As a private, nonprofit corporation, we at the Fair rely on the support of our members, who show their support by paying $25 in annual dues, voting for the board of directors and weighing in on topics at the annual meeting.
But membership has plenty of benefits for Fair members, too. Like the opportunity to buy tickets for the hottest concerts almost a month before they go on sale to the general public! That’s right – starting May 7, Fair members can get their tickets for any of the Borealis Theatre concerts, which are generously presented by AT&T. Tickets won’t go on sale to the general public until June 1, so you’re sure to get the best seats to the best shows.
As if that’s not enough, members also receive an invitation, parking and Fair admission for two to attend the board reception on opening day. You’ll also get regular updates from the Fair, plus all the warm, fuzzy feelings that come with supporting one of Alaska’s best-loved events.
So if you’re an Alaska resident and at least 18 years old – what are you waiting for? Become a Fair member by completing the membership form today!Learn More
Only two days left to apply for our first-ever scholarship! So if you’re a Mat-Su high school senior (or if you know a Mat-Su high school senior) who is looking for money for college, then read on.
Young people have always been an important and very involved part of what we do here at the Fair – from enjoying the shows, rides and food, to working at the vendor booths, to competing in contests, to participating in exhibits, and much more. From our point of view, it only made sense to create a scholarship program that would support the educational efforts of the Valley youth who have been so integral to the Fair over the past 70+ years.
So, this year, for the first time, we will proudly be awarding $1,000 cash scholarships to three local high school seniors. Every applicant will also get a free daily admission to the Fair – can’t beat that!
While the deadline is quickly approaching, the application process is simple. Just submit three copies of your application packet – including a cover sheet, Fair resume, essay and letter of recommendation – to our office by 4 p.m. this Thursday, April 29. Check out the detailed info at alaskastatefair.org/2010/scholarship/index.html. Then, watch for the announcement of scholarship recipients on May 4!
Once we have year-one under our belt, we’ll be looking to expand the scholarship program to all Alaska high school seniors. We’ll keep you posted on our plans for an even bigger and better scholarship program in the future.
