Horticulture Supervisor
Purpose: Coordinate the competitive horticulture departments and competitions at the Alaska State Fair so that they are attractive, organized, fair, and educational.
Term: Part-time year round (flexible)
- 10 hours/month Oct thru Apr
- 20 hours/month May thru Jul
- 80 hours/month Aug & Sep
Minimum Qualifications: Computer skills (Microsoft Office). Attention to detail imperative. Ability to work well with people.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and supervise the Giant Cabbage Weigh-Off and Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off
- Coordinate and supervise Crops Department & Bonsai Exhibits
- Recruit donors and organize the horticulture special award program.
- Recruit and supervise volunteers, judges and weights & measures personnel.
- Clean and organize horticulture area before and after fair. Coordinate donations of horticulture exhibit to local organizations.
- Ensure horticulture exhibits are received, judged and displayed properly.
- Oversee judges’ results and update digital system.
- Process and mail out all special awards.
- Submit Crops Department exhibitor guide changes.
Compensation: $14.00 per hour

Marketing Assistant
Purpose: Primary responsibility is to provide administrative support and assist in achieving marketing objectives and goals on social media, and online advertising.
Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications
Minimum qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent time management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe (Word, Excel, PDFs).
- Comfortable capturing and writing creative content for social media platforms; Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok and Snapchat.
- Comfortable creating TikTok content as directed.
- Ability to follow directions and support Fair staff.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Help maintain a presence on Fair’s social media accounts as directed: TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Snapchat, etc.
- Assist in updating the year-round calendar on the website as needed.
- Assist in updating online registration forms to facilitate participation.
- Help implement and follow yearly social media plan with goals, objectives, and strategies congruent with overall marketing goals.
- Assist with preparation of IAFE, WFA, and other award entries, as requested.
- Help send our emails to our mailing list with Fair updates and promotions.
- Assist in maintaining community online calendars with concerts and events.
- Assist in maintaining contact database for distributing Fair updates to media and other contacts.
- Assist in collecting, organizing, revising, and distributing information pertinent to the Fair including copy, photos, archives, program, daily schedules, Mailchimp, and related projects.
- Provide support with the souvenir ordering process, as needed.
- Maintain office organization, files, and other clerical duties.
- Treat everyone with dignity and respect at all times.
- Adhere to Alaska State Fair policies developed by the Board of Directors.
- Complete other duties as assigned by Director of Marketing and Communications.
Part-time, year-round. Full-time work leading up to and during the Fair.

France Equestrian Center Assistant
Purpose: Help maintain France Equestrian Center at the Alaska State Fair throughout the summertime showing and riding season.
Seasonal Summer Position
Minimum qualifications:
- Experience with horses and farm equipment
- Attention to detail
- Customer service oriented
- Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Open and close facility during set daily hours
- Ensure facility is neat and clean daily
- Answer questions from facility users
- Ensure facility use rules are being followed
- Maintain grounds, including painting, mowing, weeding, raking, pruning, etc.
- Disinfect stalls after each use
- Empty trash after events
- Groom arenas (if skill and age permit)
- Help with fair-time programming in FEC
Compensation: DOE, starting at $14 per hour
Term: Part-time to Full-time seasonal, May to September (flexible) 20 to 40 hours per week.

Garden Crew
Full-Time Seasonal Positions
Gardeners needed for the 2025 growing season at the Alaska State Fair. Candidates must be willing and capable of following instructions, able to work outdoors as part of a group, able to work with garden tools and able to be supervised. Work includes: soil preparation, planting, watering, fertilizing and mowing. Other duties as assigned. This is a physical labor job! Candidates must be physically able to perform the duties required, being able to routinely lift and carry 30 pounds, kneel and or be on their feet all day in all weather conditions. Available to work a 40 hour work week with occasional overtime as needed. Candidates must also possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Must be 17+ to apply. Start Date: Various positions available. Seasonal openings, hiring in May but most begin in June.

Beverage Department
Fair-time position
Alaska State Fair is back, bigger and better than ever and we need bartenders! Position begins around August 13th and continues through about September 7th. TAP card and cash register experience required. Bartending experience is a plus. Must be able to lift 40 pounds and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work varied hours, ofttimes outside in inclement weather.

Runner
Fair-time position
Duties include distributing daily schedules and programs daily throughout the Fair, running errands to different parts of the fairgrounds and community, and assisting with clerical assignments including answering the switchboard as needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds, and must have a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record. Minimum age 18.

Ticket Seller
Fair-time position
Minimum age 18. Ability to process large amounts of tickets and money quickly and accurately. Must be able to make change, process credit card sales, have excellent attention to detail, and provide courteous customer service under stressful conditions. Must have prior cash handling experience; heavy cash handling experience preferred.

Grounds Crew
Full-time Seasonal position
Minimum age 18. Ability to lift 75-100 lbs and willing to work in all weather conditions. Must have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record. Duties include painting, carpentry projects, lawn mowing, weed whipping, fence line maintenance, and garbage pickup.
