Horticulture Supervisor

Purpose:  Coordinate the competitive horticulture departments and competitions at the Alaska State Fair so that they are attractive, organized, fair, and educational.

Term: Part-time year round (flexible)

  • 10 hours/month Oct thru Apr
  • 20 hours/month May thru Jul
  • 80 hours/month Aug & Sep

Minimum Qualifications:  Computer skills (Microsoft Office).  Attention to detail imperative.  Ability to work well with people.

Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Submit Crops Department guide changes.
  • Coordinate and supervise the Giant Cabbage Weigh-Off and Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off
  • Coordinate and supervise Crops Department & Bonsai Exhibits
  • Recruit donors and organize the horticulture special award program.
  • Recruit and supervise volunteers, judges and weights & measures personnel.
  • Clean and organize horticulture area before and after fair.  Coordinate donations of horticulture exhibit to local organizations.
  • Ensure horticulture exhibits are received, judged and displayed properly.
  • Oversee judges’ results and update digital system.
  • Process and mail out all special awards.
  • Submit Crops Department guide changes.
