Alaska State Fair and Alaska Railroad Announce Return of Fair Train in 2024

Fair train tickets on sale August 1

Palmer, Alaska – The Alaska State Fair and the Alaska Railroad are pleased to announce the return of the popular Fair train in 2024. The Fair train will run the last weekend of the 2024 Fair, from Friday, August 30, through Sunday, September 1.

“A visit to the Alaska State Fair is fun and memorable, and riding the train adds to that experience,” said Jeff Curtis, Fair CEO. “Plus, since fairgoers don’t have to think about driving and parking, they can just focus on having a good time with family and friends.”

This summer marks the first time since 2019 that the Fair train has pulled into the fairground depot. “The Alaska Railroad is happy to once again partner with the Alaska State Fair to offer the Fair train. We’re always looking for opportunities to serve the community, and giving fairgoers a relaxing, enjoyable way to get to the Fair is one way we can do that,” said Dale Wade, vice president of marketing and customer service.

From August 30 through September 1, there will be two round trips offered per day between the Anchorage depot, located at 411 West 1st Avenue, and the South Palmer train depot, located next to the Green Gate. The Fair train will depart Anchorage at 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. Return trips will depart the Fair at 6:45 and 10:15 p.m. Each one-way trip is approximately 90 minutes.

Tickets for the Fair train go on sale August 1 at alaskarailroad.com. Fares are $29 for adults, $19 for children (ages 2-11), and free for a child in lap (under 2). Parking is available at the Diamond Parking Lot across from the Alaska Railroad Anchorage depot at 412 W 1st Ave. Fair admission is additional.

The Alaska Railroad is a state-owned corporation providing year-round inter-city public rail transportation and freight service from Seward to Anchorage to Fairbanks. Moving over 540,000 passengers and 3.4 million tons of freight annually, safety is at the core of its operations.
